Narcissism
“The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.”
-African Proverb
As a therapist working with narcissism, here is the type of people looking for my support:
Children of narcissistic parents,
(ex)Spouse of narcissist,
Abusive relationship in the workplace,
Narcissists and people realizing they often act like narcissists and wants help.
As a therapist, I see narcissism as a -growing- terrible issue for our mental health, no matter whether you were the victim abuse or the abuser. One of the issue is that, despite the growing public attention on the issue, we still are very confuse about what narcissistic abuse feels and look like.
It is my experience that people coming to therapy and being able to communicate with a professional who knows the ins and outs of a mental health issue is a tremendous relief. Being heard by someone who gets us make us feel understood like no one who hasn’t gone through similar life experiences can. We can then quicker get to the healing part of our journey.
This is a hard yet beautiful journey. It includes grieving, learning how to establish healthier boundaries and gaining resilience, learning to feel safe in our own head, in our home and with others, opening ourselves to give and receive love, etc.
